FARGO, N.D.--Five North Dakota State pitchers combined on a two-hitter for a 7-1 victory over Dakota Wesleyan in the Bison's home baseball opener Tuesday, April 13, at Newman Outdoor Field.

NDSU first baseman Zach Wentz went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs to extend his hitting streak to 15 games, and third baseman Jay Hartman hit 3-for-4 for the Bison, who improved to 12-14 with their third straight win.

North Dakota State starter Luke Anderson struck out five batters in three no-hit innings, but the game was scoreless through three complete after the Bison stranded two runners in each of their first three at-bats.

Dakota Wesleyan (21-13) went ahead in the fourth against Bison reliever Josh Smith. Leadoff hitter Clayton Grimstad chopped a single over Hartman at third base, moved to second on a walk to John Greicar, advanced to third on Casey Solem's sacrifice bunt, and scored on Mario Mendoza's groundout.

North Dakota State scored all seven of its runs in the fifth when the Bison sent 11 batters to the plate.

Back-to-back singles by catcher Tanner Adam and designated hitter Justin Kline started the inning before Wentz roped a two-run double into the teeth of a 30 mph wind in right-center field to put NDSU ahead 2-1.

Hartman added a two-run single with two outs in the inning, Adam drew a bases-loaded walk, and Kline hit a two-run single to cap the scoring. Kline and Adam both finished 2-for-4 for the Bison.

NDSU reliever Colby Tognetti struck out two over a scoreless sixth and seventh innings to pick up the win and even his record at 1-1.

Nick Loera's two-out single in the seventh was Dakota Wesleyan's only other hit.

Starting pitcher Matt Luckey allowed five runs on nine hits with one walk and three strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. Luckey dropped to 0-1 with the loss.

North Dakota State returns to the road to face Centenary at 6 p.m. Friday, April 16, in the first of a four-game series at Shehee Stadium in Shreveport, La.
