Bowling Green Hits Four Homers in 8-4 Win Over North Dakota State

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Matt Pitzulo and Jon Berti hit back-to-back homers in the fourth inning to spark Bowling Green to an 8-4 win over North Dakota State in college baseball Friday, March 11, at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

Pitzulo hit a two-run blast and finished 4-for-5 with four RBIs for Bowling Green, which improved to 4-7 overall. Six other Falcon players had hits including homers by Logan Walker and Ryan Schlater.

Zach Wentz was 3-for-5 and hit his team-leading seventh double for NDSU (0-11), which hit five doubles in the game.  Tim Colwell, Nick Anderson and Tyler Steen had two hits apiece for the Bison.

Pitzulo and Berti's homers plated three unearned runs to break a 2-2 tie with two outs in the fourth.  Pitzulo added an RBI double in the sixth and Berti followed with a sacrifice fly to make it a 7-2 game.

NDSU went down in order in the seventh before getting two runs back in the eighth.  Steen hit a leadoff double, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Wes Satzinger, who scored one out later on Jay Hartman's double.

Colby Tognetti took the loss in relief for NDSU and dropped to 0-1 on the year.  Tognetti allowed six runs, three earned, on six hits with one walk and three strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.

Cody Apthorpe pitched five innings for the win and evened his record at 1-1.  Apthorpe allowed two runs on seven hits with two walks and three strikeouts.  Nick Bruns came on to strike out Anderson and strand two runners in the ninth for his first save of the year.

North Dakota State is scheduled to play Xavier at 10:30 a.m. ET on Saturday, March 12, at Pat Thomas Stadium in Leesburg, Fla.  The Musketeers have won five straight and are 8-6 after beating Akron 7-0 on Friday.
