Box Score VALLEY CITY, N.D. - Preston Ghizoni's bases-loaded single with one
out in the bottom of the ninth gave North Dakota State at 5-4 win over Mayville
State in college baseball Tuesday, April 12, at Charlie Brown Field.
Wes Satzinger was 4-for-5 and Nic Obey was 3-for-5 with two runs
scored for North Dakota State, which improved to 5-18 overall with its third
straight win.
Ricky Alvernaz was 3-for-5 with two doubles and Tanner Carpenter and Dan
Bauer had two hits apiece for Mayville State, which dropped to 14-9 overall.
It was 3-0 Mayville State after three innings before the Bison scored in the
fifth. Zach Heidmann hit a one-out single, scored on Obey's double to the
wall in left-center, and Tanner Adam
followed with an RBI single one batter later to make it 3-2.
It was 4-2 before the Bison tied it in the seventh. Obey hit a leadoff single and scored on Tim Colwell's triple to the wall in
left field when left fielder Alex Berry lost the ball in the lights. Adam followed with a walk and scored on a
one-out single by Satzinger.
Casper led
off the NDSU ninth with a single to left field, moved to third on a bunt single
by Satzinger and a walk to Zach Wentz,
and scored when Ghizoni laced a 1-2 pitch to left over Mayville State's
five-man infield.
North
Dakota State left a season-high 15 runners on base in the game, which was
delayed for 29 minutes before the start of the eighth inning due to a power
outage.
Jason Mattila, the sixth pitcher of the game for
NDSU, pitched a scoreless ninth inning and evened his record at 2-2 with the
win. Josh Drews, the fifth pitcher for
Mayville State, dropped to 0-2 with the loss.

Dakota State is scheduled to play at Oakland in a four-game Summit League
series starting Friday, April 15.
