NDSU Men’s Cross Country Takes Fourth, Kelly Places Eighth at Summit League Championships

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The North Dakota State men's cross country team ran to a fourth-place team finish at The Summit League Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning. Junior Brett Kelly was the top individual finisher for the Bison, placing eighth overall with a time of 25:15.35 in the eight-kilometer race at IPFW's Hefner Complex.
Sophomore Brendan Skime took 15th place in 25:38.43, and junior Lucas DeGree was 16th in 25:39.07. Senior Alec Espeland (26:03.01) and sophomore Bryon Schuldt (26:17.31) completed the scoring for NDSU in 21st and 25th place, respectively.
Kelly, Skime, DeGree and Schuldt all recorded the highest conference-meet finishes of their careers.
South Dakota State successfully defended its league title, holding off second-place South Dakota by a one-point margin, 41-42. IUPUI took third place with 51 points, and NDSU was fourth with 85.
The Bison were picked to finish fifth in the preseason Summit League poll. Kelly earned second-team All-Summit League honors for his eighth-place finish.
NDSU will run at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Ames, Iowa, on Friday, Nov. 15.
