FARGO, N.D. – Since North Dakota State joined The Summit League prior to the 2008 season, 13 league track & field championship meets have come and gone. Thirteen first-place trophies have gone home with the Bison women.
NDSU will fight to keep that streak alive as it hosts the 2014 Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Fargo on May 15-17.
The Bison, winners of seven straight Summit League indoor team titles and six straight outdoor titles, were picked to defend their crown in the league's preseason poll. NDSU is home to this season's conference leader in a league-high 12 events.
Senior Antoinette Goodman tops the league performance lists in the 100m and 200m as she attempts to win her third outdoor title in each event. Sophomore Erin Teschuk leads the conference in the 1500m and 3,000m steeplechase.
Seniors Deborah John (100m hurdles) and Ashley Tingelstad (400m) and junior Paige Stratioti (800m) are all favored to repeat as Summit League champions in their individual events. The Bison will also be looking to defend their titles in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.
Goodman and Tingelstad both have a chance to join the list of 12 women in league history who own three outdoor league titles in the same event.
Three Bison women will be in search of their first conference crowns as they enter the meet leading the league in their respective events – Sierra Rosenau in the javelin, Katelyn Weimerskirch in the discus, and Ashley Heinze in the 400m hurdles.
NDSU will be without Emily Lesser and Maddie McClellan – who both won multiple championships at the Summit League indoor meet this season – as both are redshirting the outdoor campaign. Weimerskirch and Teschuk figure to fill the void in the throwing and distance events, respectively.
Since joining The Summit League for the 2007-08 season, the Bison have never walked away from the conference meet without a first-place trophy. With strong performers in seemingly every event, NDSU will be favored to keep the streak alive this weekend.
