The North Dakota State men's track & field team hosts the Summit League Indoor Track & Field Championships this Friday and Saturday at the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Facility on campus. The Bison will be in search of their fifth Summit League indoor title.
Multi-events action will begin at 9:30 a.m. on both days. Running events start at 3 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.
NDSU won four consecutive team championships from 2008-11 before falling short of the team title in each of the last three seasons. South Dakota won the 2014 conference title with 253 points, and NDSU finished second with 204.
The Bison enter this year's meet with league leaders in three individual events. Senior Brett Kelly tops the league list in the 3,000m, junior Brandt Berghuis is the leader in the weight throw, and sophomore Angus Stoudt ranks No. 1 in the heptathlon.
NDSU will need to score big with multiple placewinners in some events, starting with the throws. The Bison enter the league meet with six of the top eight performers this season in the shot put, led by sophomore Alex Renner. In the weight throw, NDSU's men rank 1-2-3 with more opportunities to score.
The Bison own seven of the league's top eight performances in the heptathlon this season, led by Stoudt, Grant Mjelstad, Brock Larson and Matt Neururer.
NDSU holds the top three spots in the 3,000m, with senior Lucas DeGree and junior Brendan Skime ranking second and third, respectively, behind Kelly.
The Summit League reintroduces Oral Roberts to the team race this year. The Golden Eagles claimed a runner-up finish in 2012 before leaving the league for two seasons.
GoBison.com will offer a one-camera live video stream on both days, as well as complete updates at the conclusion of each day of competition. Live updates on placing and team scoring can be found on Twitter at @NDSUTrackField.
