North Dakota State junior Erin Teschuk will make her NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships debut this weekend in Fayetteville, Ark., chasing national titles and All-America honors in a pair of events.
Teschuk will open with the prelims in the mile at 6 p.m. (CT) on Friday inside the Randal Tyson Track Center. Ten of the 16 competitors – the top four finishers in both preliminary heats, plus the next two fastest times – will advance to Saturday's finals at 6 p.m.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native will also run the 3,000m final at 8 p.m. on Saturday evening.
ESPN3 will stream the meet live on both days of competition starting at 5:50 p.m.
Teschuk enters the meet ranked fourth in the mile and fifth in the 3,000m after destroying school records in both events this season. She cut seven seconds off NDSU's previous best in the mile and knocked 28 seconds off the school record in the 3,000m.
Arizona State's Shelby Houlihan is the top returner in the mile from last season's NCAA meet after finishing third. Villanova's Emily Lipari won the title in 4:38.82 a year ago.
In the 3,000m, Dominique Scott of Arkansas is the top returner to the NCAA Championships after a runner-up finish last season. Dartmouth's Abbey D'Agostino captured the 3,000m championship last year in 9:14.47.
The top eight finishers this weekend will be named first-team All-Americans by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), and the next eight will garner second-team All-America status. NDSU has five indoor All-America honors in its Division I era, with Leslie Brost (pole vault, 4th place, 2012) and Laura Hermanson (800m, 7th place, 2009) as the only first-teamers.
In November, Teschuk became the first NDSU woman to qualify for the NCAA Division I Championships in cross country by earning a runner-up finish at the Midwest Regional.
