The North Dakota State men's track & field team is headed to California this weekend to compete in three meets on Friday, Apr. 3, and Saturday, Apr. 4.
On Friday, four Bison throwers will take part in the Stanford Invitational held in Stanford, Calif. Brandt Berghuis, Trevor Berner and Alex Renner will compete in the hammer throw at 12 p.m. (CT) / 10 a.m. (PT). Sophomore Matti Mortimore and NDSU volunteer assistant coach Riley Dolezal will throw in the invitational section of the men's javelin at 3:30 p.m. (CT) / 1:30 p.m. (PT).
Also on Friday afternoon, senior Marty Joyce will run the 10,000m and Lucas DeGree will run the 5,000m at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.
On Saturday, NDSU will compete in the Mondo Mid-Major Challenge hosted by Sacramento State – a Division I scored meet with teams from Fresno State, Cal State Northridge, Utah State, Wichita State and Sacramento State. Field events are scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. (CT) / 9:30 a.m. (PT), and running events start at 1:45 p.m. (CT) / 11:45 a.m. (PT).
Bison junior Tyler Parker currently tops all NDSU men on the national performance list, standing at No. 8 in the NCAA in the javelin. Angus Stoudt ranks 14th in the decathlon, Mortimore is 38th in the javelin, and Brett Kelly is 40th nationally in the 3,000m steeplechase.
NDSU has six league-leading marks at this point in the outdoor season – Parker (javelin), Kelly (steeplechase), Renner (shot put), Berghuis (hammer), Stoudt (decathlon) and freshman Daniel Asa in the long jump.
