FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State senior Matt Neururer claimed the Dakota Classic heptathlon title competing unattached on Saturday, capping the season-opening meet for the Bison men's track & field team.
Neururer, a Motley, Minn., native, scored a career-best 5,074 points to take first place. His point total surpassed his previous best by more than 200 points and would rank fifth all-time at NDSU if Neururer had competed attached.
Bison sophomore Ryan Enerson (Grand Forks, N.D.) finished second with 4,815 points. NDSU junior Matt Moberg totaled a personal-best 4,608 points for third place, and freshman Ben Klimpke scored 4,531 to take fourth in his first collegiate meet competing unattached.
Neururer cleared a personal-best 14-11.00 (4.55m) in the heptathlon pole vault to highlight his effort on Day 2.
