Renner, Otterdahl Break Records, Move into NCAA Top 10 at Bison Classic

FARGO, N.D. – Bison throwers Alex Renner and Payton Otterdahl destroyed the NDSU school records in the indoor throwing events to headline the efforts of the North Dakota State men's track & field team at the Bison Classic on Saturday.
Renner, a senior from Watertown, S.D., shattered his own school record in the shot put, throwing 63-00.25 (19.21m) to tack another 17 inches onto his all-time best. Renner is ranked third in the nation this season.
Otterdahl, a junior from Rosemount, Minn., posted a lifetime-best mark of 68-06.50 (20.89m) in the weight throw to rank eighth in the NCAA this season. He surpassed the previous school record by a remarkable three feet.
Only a couple hours after moving into the NCAA top 10 in the weight throw, Otterdahl threw a personal-best 60-03.25 (18.37m) for an NCAA No. 7 ranking in the shot put.
Bison senior Conrad Schwarzkopf – the previous holder of the NDSU weight throw record – finished second in the event on Saturday with a career-best toss of his own. Schwarzkopf hit 66-10.50 (20.38m) to rank second in NDSU history and No. 11 in the country this season.
The Bison men swept the top five places in the shot put with Renner, Otterdahl, Schwarzkopf, Steffan Stroh and unattached freshman Alex Talley.
NDSU swept the top three places in the men's 200m dash. Landon Jochim won in 22.04, J.T. Butler was second in 22.24, and Karter Gorney took third in 22.51. Butler also placed third in the 60m dash, clocking 7.05 seconds. Sophomore Ted Rainwater-Walker was fourth in 7.08.
NDSU sophomore Ryan Enerson took first place in the 60m hurdles, clocking 8.39 seconds, and senior Angus Stoudt was second in 8.46.
Sophomore Camron Roehl took first place in the mile in 4:21.34. Bison redshirt freshman Evan Kottsick was second in 4:22.95.
Bison junior Brian Ferry won the 600m in 1:24.46. Freshman Ben Klimpke (River Falls, Wis.) cleared 6-08.00 (2.03m) in the high jump to finish as the runner-up.
Junior Brant Gilbertson earned a runner-up finish in the 1000m, crossing the line in 2:30.52. Kelle'mon Hinton posted a career-best mark in the triple jump for third place in the meet – 46-10.75 (14.29m).
The Bison will compete next at the Jim Emmerich Alumni Invitational hosted by South Dakota State on Saturday, Jan. 21.
