The North Dakota State men's track & field team will travel to Brookings, S.D., this Saturday, Jan. 21, to compete in the Jim Emmerich Alumni Invitational hosted by South Dakota State. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon inside the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
Teams joining NDSU in participating are expected to include South Dakota, North Dakota, UMKC, Omaha, University of Mary, Augustana, Iowa Central, and the host Jackrabbits.
The NDSU men enter this weekend with athletes ranked in the nation's top 20 in three different events. Senior Alex Renner, the reigning Summit League Athlete of the Week, ranks third in the country in the shot put this season after throwing 63-00.25 (19.21m) to set a school record at the Bison Classic on Jan. 14.
Junior Payton Otterdahl is the only man who ranks in the NCAA's top 10 in both throwing events this year, standing at No. 9 in the weight throw and No. 10 in the shot put. Senior Conrad Schwarzkopf also ranks 14th in the weight throw, and Bison sophomore Ryan Enerson is No. 20 in the NCAA in the heptathlon.
Both Renner and Otterdahl set Shelly Ellig Indoor Track & Field Facility records last Saturday. The NDSU men have posted six new performances early this season that rank among the 10 best in NDSU history in the throwing events. Joining Renner, Otterdahl and Schwarzkopf are senior Brian Blasey (7th, shot put) and junior Steffan Stroh (8th, weight throw).
