NDSU Men’s Track & Field Captures 5th Summit League Indoor Championship

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team used big points in the throwing events and heptathlon, plus solid contributions across the board to win its fifth Summit League indoor team championship on Saturday afternoon.
The Bison men racked up 183 points in the team standings to win the school's first indoor team title since 2011. South Dakota State was the runner-up with 145.5 points, and Oral Roberts took third with 132 points.
NDSU won four consecutive indoor team championships from 2008-11. Including outdoor titles, the Bison have now won 12 team championships since 2008.
For the second day in a row, the Bison swept each of the top six places in a throwing event to score 36 team points. Junior Alex Renner claimed the shot put title and set a new school record at 61-07.50 (18.78m), and Brandt Berghuis, Payton Otterdahl, Conrad Schwarzkopf, Steffan Stroh and Brian Blasey filled out the next five places.
The Bison men scored 72 of a possible 78 points in the two throwing events.
Redshirt freshman Ryan Enerson scored a personal-best 4,987 points to win the heptathlon and lead five NDSU placewinners in the event. The Bison racked up 30 points in the heptathlon with Matt Neururer second, Grant Mjelstad third, Kevin Drotts fifth and Matt Moberg seventh.
Sophomore Landon Jochim won the 400m dash with an indoor personal-best time of 48.57 and later came back to take sixth place in the 200m dash. Freshman Jacob Richter ran 49.76 for sixth place in the 400m.
Senior Jerome Begin clocked 8.24 seconds for third place in the 60m hurdles, leading a 3-4-5-7 finish for the Bison. Senior Colin Paarmann finished fourth, Enerson was fifth, and senior Brock Larson took seventh.
Paarmann took runner-up honors in the triple jump, leaping 47-05.00 (14.45m).
Jonah Warwick raced to a second-place finish in the 800m in 1:54.85, and Dalton Herding took seventh in the event.
Matt Bedard, Begin, Warwick and Jochim finished second in the 4x400m relay.
Sophomore Brant Gilbertson took sixth in the mile in 4:19.13.
Senior Beau Kashmark and Enerson placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the high jump with both clearing 6-04.75 (1.95m).
