The North Dakota State University men's track & field team will travel to Des Moines, Iowa, this weekend to compete in the Drake Relays on Friday and Saturday.
The Drake Relays will feature some of the nation's top track & field competition this weekend, as well as providing the Bison an opportunity to run relay events such as the 4x200m, 4x800m, 1600m medley, distance medley and the shuttle hurdle relay.
A group of Bison athletes will also compete at the Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson College in nearby Indianola, Iowa, on Friday.
The NDSU men have continued to develop one of the nation's deepest and most impressive throwing squads. In the national event squad rankings, the Bison men are ranked No. 2 in the country in the shot put, javelin and decathlon, and NDSU is also among the top 10 in the hammer throw and discus.
This season, five Bison men have topped 57 feet in the shot put. No other school in the country has more than three men beyond that distance.
The Bison men currently lead The Summit League in six events this season, including all four throwing events. NDSU's league leaders include Jerome Begin (400m hurdles), Alex Renner (shot put), Payton Otterdahl (discus), Conrad Schwarzkopf (hammer), Matti Mortimore (javelin) and Brock Larson (decathlon).
The Bison will return home to host the NDSU Tune-Up meet on Friday, May 6, as well as competing at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays in Sioux Falls, S.D.
