DES MOINES, Iowa – North Dakota State's Alex Renner earned a runner-up finish in the shot put at the Drake Relays to highlight the performances by the Bison men's track & field team on Friday.
Renner posted a mark of 59-09.50 (18.22m) for a second-place finish behind JC Murasky of Ohio State. The junior from Watertown, S.D., is ranked 15th in the NCAA this season in the shot put, while Murasky stands at No. 4 in the country.
NDSU sophomore Austin Schmidt took fifth place in the javelin with a throw of 205-9 (62.70m). Senior Quinn Baumann placed sixth in the javelin at Drake, throwing 205-1 (62.50m).
Karter Gorney, Landon Jochim, Aron Klos and Matt Bedard clocked 1:25.87 in the 4x200m relay, placing fifth in the meet and ranking ninth-fastest in NDSU history. Bedard, Jochim, Jacob Richter and Klos ran a season-best time of 3:14.70 in the 4x400m relay for 19th place in the prelims.
Bison senior Brandt Berghuis finished ninth in the shot put with a toss of 56-08.50 (17.28m), and Conrad Schwarzkopf took 16th at 54-11.50 (16.75m).
NDSU junior Jonah Warwick clocked a career-best 800m time of 1:50.97 at the Drake Relays on Thursday afternoon.
At the Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, Bison redshirt freshman Camron Roehl placed third in the 1500m with a time of 3:58.86. Freshman Byrne Curl took ninth in the 400m dash in 49.87.
Competition at the Drake Relays will conclude on Saturday.
