Andrushko Posts School Record in 1000 Meters, Throwers Register New Bests at Bison Classic

FARGO, N.D. – Senior Amy Andrushko and the NDSU women's throwers highlighted a number of strong performances by the North Dakota State track & field team at the Bison Classic on Saturday.
The Bison women swept the top five places in the weight throw and took eight of the top nine spots, led by event winner Katelyn Weimerskirch. Already the school record holder in the event, Weimerskirch won the weight throw at 66-02.25 (20.17m), ranking her No. 9 in the NCAA early this season.
Junior Courtney Pasiowitz posted the second-best weight throw of her career, 64-10.50 (19.77m), for second place on Saturday. NDSU sophomore Bailey Retzlaff registered a huge personal-best of 61-02.00 (18.64m) to finish third and rank sixth in NDSU history. Redshirt freshman Maddy Nilles threw 60-04.00 (18.39m) to become No. 8 all-time at NDSU in the weight throw.
Senior Amy Andrushko broke Kinsey Coles' 13-year-old school record in the 1000m, running 2:52.45 for the win. Senior Jenny Guibert was the runner-up, clocking 2:52.88 for the third-fastest time in NDSU history.
In the shot put, Pasiowitz led an NDSU sweep of the top four places with a winning throw of 50-10.75 (15.51m). Retzlaff matched her breakout performance from the weight throw, also moving to No. 6 on the NDSU all-time list in the shot put with a mark of 48-09.50 (14.87m). Weimerskirch finished third, and sophomore Shelby Gunnells placed fourth.
NDSU sophomore Kayla Huhnerkoch won the mile with a personal-best time of 5:00.73. Sophomore Annika Rotvold placed second in 5:01.41 in her first race on the track as a Bison.
Junior Alexis Woods clocked an indoor personal-best time of 25.02 seconds to win the 200m dash.
Bison junior Amanda Levin took second in the long jump with a mark of 18-00.50 (5.50m). Freshman Macy Denzer was fourth in the 60m hurdles in 9.16 seconds.
The Bison will compete next at the Jim Emmerich Alumni Invitational hosted by South Dakota State on Saturday, Jan. 21.
