AMES, Iowa – North Dakota State junior Jake Leingang set a school record in the 5,000 meters to highlight the first day of competition for the Bison men's track & field team at the Iowa State Classic on Friday.
Leingang ran 14:01.32 in the 5,000m, breaking Paul LeBlanc's 32-year-old school record by 21 seconds. Based on marks entering the weekend, Leingang ranks among the top 25 in the NCAA this season.
Bison junior Landon Jochim recorded an indoor career-best time of 21.88 seconds in the 200m dash. He finished 14th in the meet and ranks No. 6 all-time at NDSU in the event.
Junior Payton Otterdahl placed fourth in the weight throw, throwing 66-05.75 (20.26m). Conrad Schwarzkopf took ninth place at 62-06.75 (19.07m). Both rank among the top 30 in the country this year.
Redshirt freshman Elliott Stone finished 25th in the 5,000m at Iowa State in 15:06.40.
NDSU junior Jacob McBride won the shot put at the SDSU Indoor Classic, posting a mark of 47-03.00 (14.40m).
The Iowa State Classic and SDSU Indoor Classic will resume on Saturday.
