Weimerskirch's School Record, Gietzen's Vault Highlight NDSU's Day at Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif. – North Dakota State senior thrower Katelyn Weimerskirch improved her hammer throw school record at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate meet hosted by Long Beach State on Thursday. She won with a mark of 203-10 (62.12m), then later added her second event title of the day, winning the discus with a throw of 171-3 (52.20m).
Weimerskirch moved in the NCAA's top 20 in the hammer throw, joining her national top-30 mark in the discus from earlier this season.
Bison junior Lauren Gietzen vaulted a career-best 13-03.75 (4.06m) in the pole vault, tying her for second in NDSU outdoor history and likely qualifying for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in late May.
Senior Morgan Milbrath clocked a season-best time of 59.33 in the 400m hurdles, taking first place and ranking 42nd in the NCAA this season. Senior Amy Andrushko claimed the 800m title in 2:09.20.
NDSU sophomore Maddy Nilles threw a personal-best of 198-11 (60.63m) in the hammer, ranking third-best in NDSU history and 33rd in the NCAA this year. Also in the women's hammer, NDSU junior Hannah Frost registered a season-best 193-7 (59.01m) and true freshman Amy Herrington threw a personal-best 193-3 (58.90m) for sixth all-time at NDSU.
Sophomore Shelby Gunnells was the shot put runner-up at Long Beach State, throwing a season-best 48-06.00 (14.78m). Bailey Retzlaff finished fourth, Maggie Schwarzkopf was fifth, and Bison junior Kayla Hochhalter recorded a personal-best toss of 45-11.25 (14.00m) for sixth place.
Junior sprinter Alexis Woods ran 54.48 in the 400m dash – a new outdoor personal-best that moved her up to No. 7 in NDSU history. Gabby Grommesh matched her personal-best with a time of 25.12 seconds in the 200m dash.
In the heptathlon at the California Invitational Multi-Events in Azusa, Calif., redshirt freshman Maea Wall (4,443 points) and junior Jaelin Beachy (4,329 points) both recorded new personal-bests.
Several Bison athletes will compete at the Mt. SAC Relays in Torrance, Calif., on Friday, and the team will return to Long Beach State for the Beach Invitational on both Friday and Saturday.
