Renner Extends Shot Put School Record as NDSU Throwers Shine at Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – Senior thrower Alex Renner extended his school record in the shot put and posted one of the top marks in the NCAA to headline the efforts of the North Dakota State men's track & field team at the Husker Spring Invite on Saturday, Apr. 8.
Renner extended his NDSU all-time best in the shot put, winning with a throw of 63-00.25 (19.21m). Based on marks entering this weekend, he ranks seventh in the nation this season. Renner was also the runner-up in the hammer on Saturday, posting the second-best throw of his career at 204-1 (62.21m).
Bison senior Matti Mortimore won the javelin for the third straight meet, throwing 252-11 (77.08m). Mortimore has now surpassed 77 meters in three consecutive meets and has 10 throws of 75-plus meters this year.
Junior Steffan Stroh won the hammer on his final attempt, throwing 204-5 (62.32m). The Bison men dominated the event, finishing 1-2-4-5-6. Redshirt freshman Michael Keogan registered a personal-best mark, throwing 181-1 (55.19m) for sixth place – a new best by more than four feet.
NDSU junior Jacob McBride registered a lifetime-best toss of 174-1 (53.06m) in the discus to finish third. He now ranks No. 4 all-time at NDSU in the event.
Senior Conrad Schwarzkopf threw a season-best 57-06.25 (17.53m) to take second in the shot put, as well as placing fourth in the hammer. Junior Austin Schmidt finished fourth in the javelin with his throw of 207-5 (63.22m).
Junior sprinter Landon Jochim ran an outdoor personal-best 47.22 in the 400m to take third place and rank fourth-fastest in NDSU history.
Bison sophomore Karter Gorney ran a personal-best 21.75 in the 200m dash for fifth place. JT Butler clocked 21.77 for sixth.
Competing unattached, Jonah Warwick ran the second-fastest 800m of his career in 1:51.04. Sophomore Byrne Curl finished in a career-best time of 1:52.51.
NDSU redshirt freshman Evan Kottsick placed third in the 1500m in a personal-best 3:57.01.
The Bison men will travel to southern California for a series of meets from Apr. 12-15.
