NDSU Baseball Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader at Northern Colorado, 6-3 and 4-2

GREELEY, Colo. – The North Dakota State University baseball team swept a doubleheader at the University of Northern Colorado Saturday, March 3, at Jackson Field, winning game one, 6-3, and game two, 4-2.
North Dakota State (6-5) is scheduled to face Northern Colorado (5-5) in the series finale of the four-game series Sunday, March 4, at noon MT in Greeley.
In NDSU's 6-3 game one victory, senior infielder Mason Pierzchalski went 3-for-4 with three RBI, a double and home run, while sophomore infielder Bennett Hostetler went 3-for-3 with a triple and RBI, leading the Bison at the plate.
Junior right-hander Jordan Harms (1-0) earned the victory on the mound for North Dakota State after giving up just two earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and no walks in five innings, and senior reliever Kevin Folman secured his second save of the season after tossing a pair of scoreless innings with five strikeouts and one walk.
After the Bears took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first, the NDSU bats ignited for six runs in the top of the second.
Tucker Rohde and Hostetler hit back-to-back RBI triples for NDSU's opening two runs of the inning, before Drew Fearing plated the Bison's third run of the frame with a RBI single to right center. Pierzchalski capped the inning with a three-run homer. It was his second round-tripper of the season.
Tyler Yamaguchi and Cole Maltese each tallied two hits to pace the Bears in game one.
Keenan Lum (2-1) suffered the loss for Northern Colorado after giving up six earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks in two innings.
In the Bison's 4-2 triumph in the nightcap, junior outfielder Alec Abercrombie paced the NDSU offense, going 3-for-4 with a triple and RBI, while Jayse McLean, Fearing and Pierzchalski each tallied two hits.
Senior left-hander Blake Stockert (1-0) posted the win on the mound for North Dakota State after surrendering no earned runs on three hits with seven strikeouts and no walks in five innings. Sophomore Parker Harm earned his first career save after throwing four innings in relief. Harm allowed just two earned runs on two hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.
NDSU took a 2-0 lead after scoring two runs in the top of the fifth inning. McLean plated the Bison's first run of the inning on a RBI single before Pierzchalski batted in the second run of the frame with a RBI double.
The Bison increased their lead to 3-0 in the top of the sixth after Abercrombie tripled down the right field line, scoring Hostetler.
The Bears cut the NDSU lead to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, but North Dakota State responded with a run in the top of the seventh, increasing its lead to 4-2. McLean hit a one-out triple to right center, before crossing home plate on Logan Busch's RBI ground out.
Maltese and Baxter Halligan each tallied doubles, while Brett Minnick hit a triple, leading UNC in game two.
Aaron Hamilton (0-2) took the loss for Northern Colorado after allowing three earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and two walks in six innings.
