Bison Shoot 282 to Open Ron Moore Invitational

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. - The North Dakota State men's golf team had its second top-five round in school history of the year on Friday, as the Bison opened play at the Ron Moore Invitational.
NDSU shot a 282 in the opening round, tied for the fifth best score in school history. Earlier this year, the Bison shot a 274 to break the school record for 18 holes. Denver and Wyoming are tied for the team lead with a 276 after the opening round, while Wyoming's Kirby Coe-Kirkham has the individual lead with a 65 after the first round.
With three birdies and an eagle in the opening round, Van Holmgren leads the way for the Bison with a 69. Holmgren is tied for seventh after the first round. Holmgren was one of six players that was three-under par on par five holes, while he was one of two players in the field with an eagle in the opening round.
Andrew Israelson, Lucas Johnson and Brock Winter are all tied for 14th with a 71 in the first round. Johnson led the Bison with five birdies on the day, while Winter and Israelson added four and three respectively. Nate Deziel rounded out the Bison lineup with a 73, as he is tied for 25th. Deziel had a birdie on the fifth hole, while he was one of eight players to lead the field with 14 pars.
Playing as an individual, Jed Baranczyk is tied for 20th with a 72 after firing three birdies in the first round. Also playing as an individual, Nate Adams is in 50th with an 81 after the opening round that included a birdie on the sixth hole.
The second round of the three day tournament gets underway at 9:30 a.m. central time on Saturday.
