Bison, Israelson Second After Opening Day of Invitational at Savannah Harbor

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The North Dakota State men's golf team opened the spring season in impressive fashion on Saturday, as the Bison are tied for second after two rounds of the Invitational at Savannah Harbor.
Leading the way through two rounds for the Bison was Andrew Israelson, as he is in second with a 140 for the two rounds. Israelson shot a 72 in the first round and followed it with a season-low 68 in the second round. It was the third time this year that a Bison has shot a 68, as Israelson and Van Holmgren have both done it this year. Israelson had three first round birdies and four in the second round to go along with an eagle on the first hole in the first round. He was one of four players to record an eagle on the first day. Israelson averaged 2.75 strokes on par three holes on the day, while being two-under on those holes, the second best total in the field.
Nate Deziel is tied for 16th after shooting a 74 and 72 for a 146 over the two rounds. His second round 72 is tied for the lowest of his career. Deziel had a pair of birdies in each round. Holmgren shot a 69 in the first round, as he was tied for first after the opening round. He followed with a 79 in the second round and is tied for 35th with a 148. Holmgren also had two birdies in each round.
Lucas Johnson was tied for ninth after the first round with a 72, while tallying a 77 in the second round to be tied for 40th with a 149 for the two rounds. Johnson had six birdies in the first round and one in the second. Will Holmgren is tied for 78th with a 154 for the two rounds after shooting a 77 in both rounds. W. Holmgren had a pair of birdies in each round.
Playing as an individual, Jed Baranczyk is tied for 11th with a 144 for the first two rounds. Baranczyk shot a 74 in the first round and then a career-low 70 in the second. Baranczyk had four birdies in each round.
The Bison are tied for second with Jacksonville State after leading after the first round. NDSU shot a 287 in the opening round, the third lowest score of the season for the Bison. NDSU shot a 581 for the two rounds and is three strokes behind Austin Peay State, while holding a one-stroke lead over Belmont going into the final round. Belmont's Evan Davis has the individual lead after the first day with a 139.
