Nobody in the history of collegiate athletics has ever thrown the indoor shot put further than
Payton Otterdahl. North Dakota State's all-world senior broke the all-time collegiate record at the Summit League Championships on Saturday, throwing 71-06.75 (21.81m) for the win.

He surpassed the previous record of 71-03.50 (21.73m), shared by Ryan Crouser of Texas (2016) and Ryan Whiting of Arizona State (2008), by over three inches. Otterdahl is now the 17th-best performer in world history in the indoor shot put.

The Bison men came up short in their chase for a fourth straight Summit League team title. South Dakota State won its first league championship with 220 points, and the Bison finished a close second with 207.

The NDSU men swept the top four places in the shot put and had five finish in the top six. Behind Otterdahl, the Bison had sophomore

Michael Keogan fourth, and sophomore

Ryan Enerson captured his third Summit League heptathlon title, winning with a career-best score of 5,269 points. Enerson, who ranks seventh in NDSU history, also won the conference crown as a freshman in 2016 and as a sophomore in 2017.

The Bison men finished 1-3-4-6-7 in the heptathlon, scoring 26 team points. Junior

Tyler Enerson was sixth, and redshirt freshman
Chris McGlynn took seventh. Asa (4,783) and McGlynn (4,529) posted personal-best scores.

J.T. Butler had a big meet on the track for the Bison, placing second in the 60m dash (6.85 seconds) and fifth in the 200m dash. He ran an indoor PR of 21.63 in the 200m dash final, ranking fourth all-time at NDSU.

Sophomore
Marcus Walton finished second in the high jump, clearing 6-10.25 (2.09m).

NDSU placed second, fourth, sixth and eighth in the triple jump, led by senior
Kelle'Mon Hinton at 49-04.25 (15.04m). Walton registered a career-best mark by a foot and a half, taking fourth at 47-04.25 (14.43m). Sophomore
Eric VanErp was sixth, and senior
Matt Moberg was eighth.

Alex Bartholomay claimed runner-up honors in the mile in 4:11.44. NDSU finished 2-4-5 with
Tim Heikkila and
Camron Roehl behind Bartholomay.

Cody Roder,
Josh Knutson and
Jacob Richter took third in the 4x400m relay in a season-best 3:15.56.

In the 400m dash, Richter took fourth in a season-best 48.16, and Roder placed fifth in 48.22. Roder moved up to seventh all-time at NDSU in the indoor 400m.

Enerson also placed fourth in the 60m hurdles final in 8.34 seconds.

The Bison men finished 5-6-7-8-9 in the 5000m, once again led by Bartholomay in fifth.
