NDSU Women Perform Well in Hammer, Javelin at Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. – The North Dakota State University women's throwers opened the 2019 outdoor track & field season with numerous strong performances on Friday at the Baldy Castillo Invitational hosted by Arizona State.
Bison junior Amy Herrington threw a personal-best 206-5 (62.92m) to win the hammer throw, moving up to third all-time at NDSU. Her throw was a seven-foot improvement over last year.
NDSU senior Hannah Frost moved up to No. 4 on the NDSU all-time list in the hammer, throwing a personal-best 202-6 (61.72m) in the season opener. Junior Bailey Retzlaff also threw a personal-best in the hammer – 197-8 (60.26m) to rank seventh in NDSU history.
Bison sophomore Kari Wolfe opened the javelin season with a throw of 162-2 (49.43m) to place third on Friday. It was the second-best mark of her career.
Redshirt freshman Akealy Moton threw 157-1 (47.88m) in her collegiate javelin debut to finish fifth in the meet. She's now ranked fifth in NDSU history. Bison junior Kaitlyn Smith threw a javelin personal-best of 141-8 (43.18m).
Competition will continue on Saturday, with the throwers at Arizona State and the rest of the Bison track & field team at the IMG Academy Invitational in Bradenton, Fla.
