Bison Set to Defend Summit League Men's Golf Title

NEWTON, Kan. - The North Dakota State University men's golf team opens play in The Summit League Men's Golf Championship Sunday, April 28, at Sand Creek Station Golf Club. Last season, the Bison won their first Summit League men's golf title.
North Dakota State tees off in the first of three rounds at 8:55 a.m. Sunday. The 54-hole tournament is scheduled for April 28-30, with the course being played at 6,931 yards and scoring set at a par-72.

Bison Notes
- The Bison (294.12) will be the number four seed based on the final Golfstat rankings, while Denver (294.45), who NDSU held off by two strokes at last year's championship, will be the top seed. Oral Roberts, who owned the league's best stroke average at 292.06, will be the number two seed.
- There are six all-league performers from 2018 returning to the field this week. Two of those six are from North Dakota State, as Andrew Israelson earned first team honors last year and Van Holmgren earning second team honors. There are three first team and three second team selections from last year returning.
- Israelson is one of four 2018 All-Tournament Team selections that is back from last year. Israelson finished second with a 219 last year.
- The Bison rank third in the league in stroke average at 294.1. The top four teams are separated by 2.2 strokes, with Oral Roberts leading the league at 292.1, while Denver is fourth at 294.3. Of the top four in stroke average, the Bison are the only one that played fewer than 30 rounds.
- Holmgren and Israelson both rank in the top three in the league in stroke average. Holmgren is second at 72.4, while Israelson is third at 73.0. NDSU is the only school with two players in the top six in the league in stroke average.
- Twice this year Holmgren has shot a 142 over 36 holes at a tournament. His score at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational and the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate are tied for the seventh best in school history.
- Israelson shot a 207 over 54 holes at the GCU Invitational. His score is the second best in school history. He also has the third-best score (208) from last season.
- Holmgren and Israelson are two of the best to ever play at NDSU. Holmgren currently holds the best career stroke average in school history at 73.29, while Israelson is just behind him in second at 73.3.
