NDSU Men Sixth After Opening Round of Summit League Golf Championship

NEWTON, Kan. - After the opening round of the 2019 Summit League Men's Golf Championship, defending champion North Dakota State is in sixth place as a team. The top six teams are separated by 10 strokes after the first round.

Andrew Israelson led the way for the Bison, as he is tied for seventh with a 73 in the first round. Israelson had a team-high four birdies in the opening round. Van Holmgren and Nate Deziel are tied for 16th after the opening round, as they both shot a 75. Holmgren had a pair of birdies in the first round, while Deziel had had three.

Lucas Johnson is tied for 27th after the first round with a 77. Will Holmgren rounded out the NDSU lineup, as he is tied for 36th with an 80 after the opening round. W. Holmgren had a birdie on the round.

The Bison shot a 300 in the opening round, finishing just behind Purdue Fort Wayne (299) and South Dakota (298). Oral Roberts and South Dakota State are tied for the lead with a 290, while Denver is in third with a 292. South Dakota State's Jared Nicolls has the individual lead with a 68 after the opening round.

Play in the second round will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kan. The third and final round will also be played on Monday, as rain is expected in Kansas on Tuesday.
