Bison Men Open Play at Zach Johnson Invitational

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa - The North Dakota State men's golf team battled through high temperatures and strong winds on the opening day of the Zach Johnson Invitational, hosted by Drake University at Glen Oaks Country Club.
NDSU sits in sixth place as a team after the opening two rounds with a 611. The Bison shot a 306 in the first round and a 305 in the second round. NDSU had 12 birdies on the day, tied with South Dakota and Green Bay for the tournament lead. Loyola leads the meet with a 601. Loyola's Nate Vance is in first place after two rounds at an even 142 with back-to-back rounds of 71.
Van Holmgren led the way for the Bison, as he is tied for eighth with a 150 for the two rounds. Holmgren shot a 76 in the first round and a 74 in the second. Holmgren had three birdies over the two rounds, tied for the third most in the field. Andrew Israelson followed with a 151, as he is tied for 15th. Israelson shot a 74 in the opening round and a 77 in the second.
Brock Winter is just behind them, sitting in a tie for 18th with a 152. Winter shot a 79 in the first round before firing a 73 in the second. Nate Deziel is tied for 40th with a 158. Deziel shot a 77 in the opening round and an 81 in the second round. Lucas Johnson rounded out the NDSU lineup, as he is tied for 49th with a 161. Johnson shot an 80 in the first round and an 81 in the second.
Jed Baranczyk and Nate Adams were entered as individuals. Baranczyk shot an 80 in the first round, but fired a 71 in the second. He sits in a tie for 15th with a 151, shooting a tournament-low three-under par on par five holes. Adams shot an 81 in the opening round and followed with a 75, as he is tied for 33rd with a 156. Baranczyk and Adams each recorded a tournament-best five birdies on the day.
The final round, weather permitting, gets underway at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Glen Oaks Country Club.
