Bison Women Make Strides at Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team dominated the throwing events and posted numerous strong performances on the track at Saturday's Mark Colligan Memorial hosted by Nebraska.
 
Senior Maddy Nilles led a Bison sweep of the top three places in the weight throw, winning with a toss of 65-08.25 (20.02m). Junior Amy Herrington took second with a personal-best throw of 63-09.00 (19.43m), ranking seventh in NDSU history, and senior Shelby Gunnells was third at 62-08.50 (19.11m).
 
Bison sophomore Akealy Moton won the shot put with a near indoor personal-best of 55-03.75 (16.86m). Gunnells took third with a mark of 52-06.50 (16.01m).
 
NDSU's Kelby Anderson took second in the mile, finishing in 4:48.40. She also ran an indoor 800m PR of 2:15.89 for fourth place.
 
Senior Jocelyn Dinius clocked 7.68 seconds in the prelims of the 60m dash – ranking her eighth in NDSU history. Junior Peyton Frolek just missed a spot in the NDSU all-time Top 10 for the 600m, taking runner-up honors Saturday in 1:34.39.
 
Senior Klara Lyon and Dinius both cleared 12-08.25 (3.87m) in the pole vault, taking third and fourth place. Freshman Ashley Hokanson (Perham, Minn.) cleared 12-02.50 (3.72m) to tie for 10th on the NDSU all-time indoor list.
 
Freshman Nell Graham was the top NDSU finisher in the 400m dash, taking third place in 57.19.
 
The Bison women finished second behind Nebraska in the 4x400m relay, running a Summit League-leading 3:52.29 with Alyssa Lind, Paige Harris, Frolek and Graham.
 
Sophomore Jodi Lipp took fifth in the triple jump with a strong mark of 39-06.50 (12.05m), and also placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 18-08.50 (5.70m).
 
Freshman Kendra Kelley was the top Bison in the 200m dash, taking fifth place in a season-best 25.35. She also clocked a season-best 7.76 seconds in the 60m dash.
 
Freshman Bailee Dierks (Hudson, Wis.) posted her second-best time of the season in the 60m hurdles, running 8.96 in the prelims.
 
The Bison return to action at Minnesota's Jack Johnson Classic on Friday, Jan. 31, and Saturday, Feb. 1.
