FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team concluded the Bison Open with a number of significant performances on Saturday.
Former NDSU All-American Alex Renner won the shot put with a lifetime-best throw of 65-09.75 (20.06m). Behind Renner, the Bison men swept second- through ninth-place in the shot put.
Junior Alex Talley was the runner-up at 62-05.25 (19.03m), and sophomore Kristoffer Thomsen placed third with the same distance. Freshman Maxwell Otterdahl took fourth at 60-11.50 (18.58m), with older brother Trevor Otterdahl in fifth with a throw of 59-08.25 (18.19m).
Senior sprinter Guillaume Viault clocked a season-best 6.86 seconds to win the 60m dash, ranking seventh all-time at NDSU.
The NDSU men swept the top three places in the mile, with junior Alex Bartholomay winning in 4:12.44. Tim Heikkila was the runner-up with a time of 4:12.69, and freshman Isaac Huber was third in 4:15.40.
Bison freshman Trent Davis won the 60m hurdles title in a season-best 8.19 seconds, falling just outside the NDSU all-time Top 10.
Junior Noah Shafer cleared 15-09.25 (4.81m) to win the Bison Open pole vault.
Sophomore Luke Foertsch took second place in both the triple jump and long jump. He recorded a triple jump personal-best of 45-10.50 (13.98m), and tied his indoor long jump PR of 22-07.25 (6.89m).
Freshman Elijah Hylen led the Bison men in the high jump, clearing 6-08.75 (2.05m) for third place.
Sophomores Josh Samyn (1:54.04) and Keiser Freetly (1:54.99) now rank second and third in The Summit League in the 800m after their performances on Saturday.
Junior Alex Brosseau clocked a personal-best 6.96 seconds in the prelims of the 60m dash.
At the Millrose Games in New York City, former NCAA champion Payton Otterdahl placed third in a loaded shot put competition with a season-best mark of 69-02.75 (21.10m). He ranks among the top 10 in the world this year.
