DAYTON, Ohio - Four late runs for the North Dakota State baseball team broke a 1-1 tie on Friday afternoon, as the Bison beat Dayton 5-1 in the series opener at Woerner Field.
NDSU improved to 8-3 on the year, while the Flyers dropped to 3-8. The two teams will play the second game of the four game series on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. (Central).
The top of the Bison order led the way offensively on Friday, as
Jake Malec,
Peter Brookshaw and
Bennett Hostetler each had a pair of hits. Malec scored two runs for the Bison, as he extended his hitting streak to 10 games. On the mound,
Cade Feeney improved to 2-0 in six innings, striking out two and walking one, while allowing a run on seven hits.
Jake Drew struck out one in 1.2 innings, while
Parker Harm picked up his second save of the year, and fifth of his career, in 1.1 innings. Harm struck out four, while walking one and allowing a hit.
Tucker Rohde singled to left field in the first inning, as Malec scored. The Flyers tied the game in the bottom of the second, as the two teams were then scoreless until the seventh inning. A double down the left field line by Malec drove in
Calen Schwabe before Malec score on a single to right field by Brookshaw. In the ninth,
Zach Solano scored on a wild pitch before a single up the middle by Hostetler brought in Brookshaw.
