Early Runs Lead Bison Baseball to 9-7 Win at Oral Roberts

TULSA, Okla. - The North Dakota State baseball team scored nine runs in the first two innings before holding on for a 9-7 win at Oral Roberts in the series finale.

NDSU improved to 16-6 overall and 5-3 in Summit League play, while Oral Roberts dropped to 9-14 overall and 2-2 in league play. The Bison return to action on Friday, as they travel to Omaha for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Jake Malec and Zach Solano led the Bison with two hits apiece. Peter Brookshaw, Bennett Hostetler and Tucker Rohde each scored two runs. Charley Hesse drove in three runs, while Solano brought in a pair. Max Loven earned his first win on the mound this season, as he struck out four in five innings. Loven allowed three runs on six hits over 70 pitches. Tristen Roehrich tossed three innings, striking out one and walking three. Roehrich allowed four runs on three hits. Wyatt Nelson picked up his fourth save of the season in the final inning. Hostetler extended his hitting streak to 15 games, becoming the ninth player in the last 21 years to have a hitting streak of 15 or more games.

The Bison jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Hesse and a bases loaded walk by Hunter Koep. NDSU added six runs in the second inning. Hesse walked to bring in a run before Solano singled to center field to plate Rohde and Hostetler. A single through the right side by Calen Schwabe plated Solano and Hesse before Malec singled to bring in Koep for NDSU's final run. Oral Roberts added a solo home run in the second before scoring a pair in the fifth. The Golden Eagles cut into the lead with a two-run double in the sixth and a two-run home run in the eighth.
