NDSU Baseball Falls to Northern Colorado in Series Opener

GREELEY, Colo. - Northern Colorado scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on Friday, as the Bears beat the North Dakota State baseball team 8-4 in the series opener at Jackson Field.
The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Bison, as they fell to 5-2 on the year. Northern Colorado snapped a four-game losing streak, improving to 3-5 on the season. The two teams will face each other in a doubleheader on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. (central).
Jake Malec led the Bison with three hits, while Calen Schwabe had a pair. It was the fifth multi-hit game of the season for Malec. Schwabe also drove in two runs for the Bison. Cade Feeney had a no-decision on the mound, as he tossed five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks, while striking out five. Skyler Riedinger suffered the loss, as he dropped to 0-1 on the year. Riedinger allowed four runs on three hits and a walk, while striking out one in an inning.

A pair of two-out doubles in the fourth inning drove in two Northern Colorado runners, extending the lead to 4-1. In the sixth inning, Schwabe singled to right to bring in Charley Hesse and Tucker Rohde. Bennett Hostetler scored on a wild pitch in the seventh to tie the game at 4-4. The Bears added a two-run home run, a sac fly and a ground ball RBI in the bottom of the seventh to take an 8-4 lead.
