Wolfe, Nilles Claim Summit League Titles for Bison on Day One

VERMILLION, S.D. – Maddy Nilles and Kari Wolfe captured event titles to get the North Dakota State women's track & field team started at the Summit League Outdoor Championships on Thursday. Both Nilles and Wolfe also set new meet records in their respective events.
 
Nilles, a senior from Sherrill, Iowa, won the Summit League championship in the hammer throw, registering a meet-record mark of 216-1 (65.87m). She spearheaded a Bison sweep of the top three places in the event, with Tasha Willing finishing second and Shelby Gunnells in third.
 
Wolfe, a junior from Harvey, N.D., took the conference javelin crown for the second time in her career, setting a new meet record with a throw of 179-2 (54.62m).
 
NDSU's Akealy Moton was the runner-up in the javelin, throwing a career-best 168-0 (51.21m) to rank fourth in NDSU history. She now stands among the top 30 in the nation this season.
 
Kelby Anderson took Summit League runner-up honors in the 10,000m, clocking a personal-best 35:51.70 and ranking third-fastest in NDSU history. Jen Dufner added a team point, finishing eighth in 38:00.82 for the 10,000m.
 
Bison freshmen Hayley Schmidt (132-10 / 40.49m) and Emily Poole (131-2 / 39.97m) finished sixth and seventh in the javelin.
 
The Bison are atop the team standings early, leading second-place South Dakota by a margin of 57-28.
 
Action resumes Friday with the decathlon 110m hurdles at 11 a.m. Field events begin at 4 p.m. Friday.
