LAWRENCE, Kan. - The North Dakota State baseball team scored four runs in the fifth inning, as the Bison beat Kansas 5-3 Sunday afternoon at Hoglund Ballpark. It was the second win of the weekend for NDSU, as the Bison took the series from the Jayhawks.
NDSU improved to 28-13 on the year, while Kansas dropped to 24-21. The Bison will face Mayville State on Tuesday night at Newman Outdoor Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Bennett Hostetler and
Charley Hesse each had two hits for the Bison, while Hostetler drove in a pair of runs. Hostetler moved into fourth in school history in career games played with 205, while becoming the fifth player in school history to start 200 or more games.
Evan Sankey picked up the win on the mound, as he improved to 6-1 on the year in seven innings of work. Sankey struck out four and walked four, while allowing three runs on six hits.
Tristen Roehrich pitched two-thirds of an inning before
Jake Drew came in to pick up his second save of the season in 1.1 innings of work. Drew struck out one.
Hostetler started the scoring in the fifth inning, as he singled up the middle to bring in
Jake Malec and
Calen Schwabe.
Tucker Rohde followed the Hostetler single with one of his own that drove in
Peter Brookshaw. Hesse reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Hostetler to score. Kansas scored all three runs in the bottom of the seventh on a double down the left field line and a single up the middle that brought in a pair of runs. In the top of the eighth,
Nick Emanuel singled to right field to bring in Hesse for the final run of the game.
