Qualifier Lists
FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State men's track & field team has qualified 14 entries for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds, it was announced Thursday. A total of 12 Bison men will compete, including the NDSU 4x400m relay team and three individuals entered in a pair events.
The 12 Bison men advancing to the West Prelims will be the largest contingent in school history. The meet will be hosted by Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, on May 26-29 next week.
The NCAA announced the top 48 declared entries in all individual events and the top 24 relay teams in each region on Thursday. The top 12 finishers in each event at the Preliminary Rounds will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 9-12.
Benji Phillips and
Alex Talley are the top-ranked Bison entering the meet, with Phillips ranked third in the West for the javelin, and Talley ranked among the top six in both the shot put and hammer throw.
Kristoffer Thomsen (11th in shot put) also stands inside the top 12 entering the meet, and
Maxwell Otterdahl (discus & shot put),
Trevor Otterdahl (hammer), and
Brandon Lewis (long jump) are all ranked in the top 20.
The NDSU men's 4x400m relay qualified for the NCAA Prelims for the first time in the history of the format (since 2010).
NDSU's 14 men's entries are tied for the second-most in school history.
