FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women's track & field team will have 17 entries competing at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds held May 26-29 at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. Women's competition is scheduled for Thursday and Saturday this week, with the men's events held on Wednesday and Friday.
Twelve different Bison women will compete, with throwers Akealy Moton, Maddy Nilles, Shelby Gunnells, Tasha Willing and Amanda Anderson all entered in a pair of throwing events.
The top 12 finishers in each event at the Preliminary Rounds will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 9-12. Moton is the highest-ranked NDSU woman entering the NCAA West Prelims at No. 2 in the shot put, with Nilles (3rd in hammer), Gunnells (5th in shot put), and Kari Wolfe (5th in javelin) also ranked inside the top 12 in the West.
The 17 Bison entries are tied for the third-most in school history.

How to Advance
The top 12 finishers in each event at the Preliminary Rounds will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 9-12.
In the hammer, javelin, discus, shot put and triple jump, all 48 competitors will receive a single round of three attempts. The top 12 marks overall advance to the NCAA Championships.
In the high jump, the top 12 athletes based on performance after tiebreakers and possibly a jump-off will qualify for the NCAA Championships.
In the 1500m, the top five from each of four first-round heats, plus the next four fastest times advance to the quarterfinals (24). The top five finishers from both quarterfinal heats, plus the next two fastest times (12) will advance to the NCAA Championships.
In the 5,000m, the top five from both heats, plus the next two fastest times advance to the NCAA Championships.
