BROOKINGS, S.D. – The North Dakota State wrestling team fell to No. 25 South Dakota State 32-3 in the regular season finale on Sunday at Frost Arena.
The Bison (10-4, 4-4 Big 12) dropped the first four matches to South Dakota State (13-4, 5-2 Big 12), including a final second loss at 149 pounds, to fall behind 13-0. It appeared that
Gaven Sax was going to pick up a win, but Daniel Kimball scored a late takedown and back points to flip the 149 result.
At 157 pounds,
Jared Franek continued his dominance in dual matches this season, as he picked up a 10-3 decision to cut the deficit to 13-3.
In the 165-pound match,
Luke Weber looked to be securing a takedown in overtime on No. 33 Tanner Cook, but Cook was able to rotate out of Weber's takedown attempt and secure a takedown of his own and four near fall points to claim the victory.
DJ Parker had a tight defeat at 184 pounds, falling late to Cade King in a 5-4 decision, while heavyweight
Brandon Metz lost in the first round of tie breakers to N. 24 AJ Nevills.
Riley Habisch picked up a convincing win over Jack Thomsen in a 174-pound extra match, winning 8-1.
The Bison will now set their focus on the Big 12 Championships, which will take place at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma on March 5-6.
