NDSU Overpowers Fairfield at the Snowbird Classic, 8-2

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The North Dakota State baseball team topped Fairfield, 8-2, on Friday afternoon at the Snowbird Classic at Centennial Park.

Following a scoreless first inning, the Stags (6-9) grabbed the early lead, 1-0, after Matt Venuto grounded into a double play to score Mike Bechetti. Brock Anderson answered for the Bison (10-8) sending an RBI double into right to lock the contest, 1-1.

NDSU cracked the game open in the sixth frame after Peter Brookshaw launched a two RBI home run to right field to steal the lead, 3-1. Logan Williams then followed it up in the next at bat with his team-high fifth home run of the season to extend the edge to 4-1.

After Fairfield, who advanced to the NCAA Regionals last season, notched a run in the seventh, Druw Sackett kept the momentum rolling delivering his first career home run to left field to push the advantage to 5-2. Anderson capped the frame sending an RBI single to right field to score Charley Hesse and make the score 6-2. The Bison then put the game out of reach adding on two insurance runs in the eighth after Will Busch notched an RBI double into center and Calen Schwabe used a sacrifice fly to score Busch and help secure the 8-2 win.

NDSU reached double digits in hits for the third straight game with 11. Anderson totaled two hits and two RBI, while Hesse also went 2-of-3 at the plate with a team-high two runs.

Max Loven (2-1) earned the win on the mound tossing four strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Tristen Roehrich picked up his third save of the season going the final 3.0 innings with three strikeouts.

NDSU will wrap up its series against Fairfield at the Snowbird Classic tomorrow. The doubleheader is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. CT
