NDSU Rolls Past Northern Colorado to Earn Series Sweep, 15-1

GREELEY, Colo. –  The North Dakota State baseball team eased past Northern Colorado, 15-1, to earn its sixth straight win on Sunday afternoon in seven innings at Jackson Field.

Shayden Kubo started the scoring for the Bears (15-8, 3-3 Summit) in the opening inning with a home run to left field to make the score 1-0. Charley Hesse answered for the Bison (15-8, 3-0 Summit) in the third with his first home run of the season to center field to lock the contest, 1-1. Jack Simonsen then delivered a two RBI double into right center to steal the edge, 3-1.

NDSU kept its foot on the gas with a five run fourth inning to open up an 8-1 advantage following a grand slam from Logan Williams into left field. The Bison put the contest out of reach in the fifth adding on six more runs. Williams started the big inning off connecting on his second grand slam of the game to center field to stretch the lead up to 12-1. Simonsen and Druw Sackett each added on runs following walks later in the stanza to increase the advantage to 14-1. The Bison went on to win the contest and complete the series sweep of Northern Colorado, 15-1.

NDSU totaled 15 hits as a team with eight different players notching at least one. Williams led the way going 3-of-5 at the plate, including two grand slams with three runs. He also totaled a career-high eight RBI. Williams' eight RBI were the most in a single game in the NDSU Division I era and one shy of the program record of nine, which was set by Matt Mann vs. Nebraska-Kearney in 2002 and Jason Brueske at Missouri Western State in 2000.  Peter Brookshaw also went 3-of-3 at the plate with a career-high four runs and one RBI.

Evan Sankey (3-2) earned the win on the mound tossing a season-best six strikeouts with no walks over 5.0 innings. Joey Danielson finished up the final inning for the Bison and registered three strikeouts.

NDSU will be back in action at Western Illinois on Friday. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
