Bison Continue Summit League Play at Western Illinois

THIS WEEK
The North Dakota State baseball team continues Summit League play this week at Western Illinois. The Bison begin the three-game series on Friday at 3:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
NDSU eased past Northern Colorado, 15-1, to earn its sixth straight win last Sunday in seven innings. The Bison totaled 15 hits as a team with eight different players notching at least one. Logan Williams led the way going 3-of-5 at the plate, including two grand slams with three runs. He also totaled a career-high eight RBI. Peter Brookshaw went 3-of-3 at the plate with a career-high four runs and one RBI.
WILLIAMS IS COLLECTING AWARDS
Logan Williams was named Summit League Player of the Week for the first time in his career this week and also earned a spot on the Collegiate Baseball National Players of the Week list.
Williams helped NDSU open Summit League play with a series sweep of Northern Colorado and totaled a team-high 11 RBI and team-best four home runs. The Kailua, Hawaii native registered a .429 batting average with 18 total bases, six hits and five runs.
ON HISTORIC PACE
Logan Williams capped off his big series at Northern Colorado with two grand slams and a career-high eight RBI to help the Bison to a 15-1 win. His eight RBI were the most in the NDSU Division I era and one shy of the program record of nine.
Williams has connected on a home run in each of his last seven games. The NCAA record for consecutive games with a with a home run is nine, which was set by Nevada's Tyler Bosetti in 2021 from April 24-May 9.
The Kailua, Hawaii native has totaled a team-high 10 home runs this season, which leads the Summit League and ranks tied for 13th in the nation. His 10 home runs are also the most in the NDSU Division I era in a single season and tied for 11th overall on the NDSU all-time single season list.
Williams is 1-of-24 players in the nation to reach double digits in home runs so far this season and is three behind Jake Gelof from Virgina, who leads the nation with 13.
SIX IN A ROW
NDSU has won its last six games in a row, which is the longest win streak in the Summit League and tied for the fourth-longest active win streak in the nation. Tennessee boasts the longest win streak in NCAA Division I having won its last 16 games.
RECEIVING VOTES
The Bison are receiving votes in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) poll. NDSU is the only Summit League team earning votes in the poll.
SERIES SWEEPS
The Bison opened Summit League play last week with a series sweep at Northern Colorado. It marked the first time in program history that NDSU has opened Summit League play with a series sweep.
It was also the second series sweep of the season after the Bison rolled past Fairfield at the Snowbird Classic on March 19.
THE BAT IS HOT
Through the first 23 games, NDSU has five different players with a batting average of .300 or better. Peter Brookshaw paces the Bison with a team-best .346 batting average. The Prescott, Wis., native leads NDSU in batting average (.346), on-base percentage (.447), runs scored (20), hits (27), walks (13), at bats (78) and game starts (20).
PLENTY OF ARMS
NDSU has 10 different players that have totaled at least five strikeouts this season. The pitching staff has compiled 158 strikeouts and boasts a 4.04 ERA. Cade Feeney leads the way for NDSU with a team-best 27 total strikeouts.
LOOKING FOR MORE
NDSU has totaled 46 stolen bases this season, which leads the Summit League and ranks 21st in the nation. The Bison also lead the Summit League and are slotted 20th in the nation in stolen bases per game with 2.00. Cadyn Schwabe has stolen a team-high nine bases on 11 attempts.

SCOUTING WESTERN ILLINOIS
Western Illinois begins the week with a 2-19 (0-3 Summit) overall record and has dropped its last six contests. Most recently, the Leathernecks fell short at Minnesota, 6-1, on Sunday. Caden Kratz fired a team-high three strikeouts over 1.1 innings.
THE SERIES VS. WESTERN ILLINOIS
NDSU has won each of the last four meetings against the Leathernecks after notching a series sweep last season at Newman Outdoor Field. In their most recent meeting, NDSU edged Western Illinois, 6-5, with a walk-off in the 14th inning. The Bison lead the all-time series, 42-38.

The Bison will travel to Minnesota in non-conference action on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. at Siebert Field.
