NDSU Tops Northern Colorado, 13-6, to Complete Series Sweep

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team pushed across five runs in the seventh inning to help secure the 13-6 win over Northern Colorado to complete the series sweep on Sunday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field.

The Bison (28-16, 15-4 Summit) quickly ran out to a 6-0 advantage in the fifth inning after Brock Anderson was able to sneak an RBI double in down the right field line. Northern Colorado (12-35, 8-16 Summit) answered back with a four-run sixth inning capped off by a three RBI double off the bat of Shaydon Kubo to cut the edge down to two, 6-4.

The Bison responded with a five-run seventh inning to stretch their lead back up to 11-4. Logan Williams sparked NDSU with an RBI double into right center before Charley Hesse smashed a two RBI double to right field. Will Busch kept the big frame going with an RBI double into right center and Jack Simonsen capped the inning after he connected on an RBI ground out to the shortstop.

NDSU added on insurance in the eighth with two more runs to make the score 13-4 after Hesse scored on a wild pitch and Calen Schwabe sent an RBI single into center field. Northern Colorado made one final comeback attempt in the ninth pushing two runs across to cut the deficit down to 13-6, but went on to leave three stranded after Cameron Cromer grounded out to end the contest.

The Bison connected on 13 hits as a team with seven different players contributing at least one. Hesse paced NDSU with three hits, including one double and one home run. He also added a game-high three RBI and three runs to his stat line. NDSU also tallied six stolen bases with Logan Williams and Calen Schwabe each contributing two.
