FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team blanked Mayville State, 10-0, in seven innings on Tuesday night at Newman Outdoor Field.
After two scoreless innings,
Druw Sackett cracked the game open with his fifth home run of the season to left field. The two RBI shot put NDSU (25-13, 12-4 Summit) on the scoreboard, 2-0, in the third inning.
Logan Williams then reached on an error allowing
Peter Brookshaw to get home to stretch the edge to 3-0.
Cadyn Schwabe capped the big inning with an RBI bunt to send Williams home and make the score 4-0.
Brookshaw kept the momentum rolling in the fourth inning blasting an RBI triple to right field to extend the lead to 5-0. Williams followed it up with an RBI single to left field to send Brookshaw across to make the score 6-0. After
Calen Schwabe scored on a walk,
Brock Anderson put the game out of reach with a two RBI double to right field to push the edge to 9-0 in the seventh.
Calen Schwabe scored the final run of the contest on a balk to seal the 10-0 win.
Brookshaw and
Calen Schwabe both went 2-of-3 at the plate with two runs and one RBI. NDSU connected on nine hits as a team with seven different players contributing at least one. The Bison also totaled five stolen bases, including two from Brookshaw.
Caden Edwards (1-0) earned the win tossing two strikeouts over 2.0 innings with no runs and one walk.
Wyatt Nelson also fired a game-high five strikeouts over 2.0 innings.
NDSU will be back in action at No. 5 Miami (FL) on Friday night. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. CT
