
Phillips, Wolfe Throw at NCAA Outdoor Championships in Oregon Thursday

North Dakota State senior throwers Amy Phillips and Kari Wolfe will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday, June 9, in Eugene, Ore.
Phillips will throw in Flight 2 of the hammer, which begins at 5 p.m. CT / 3 p.m. PT on Thursday at Hayward Field. Wolfe will compete in Flight 2 of the javelin, which starts at 8:45 p.m. CT / 6:45 p.m. PT.
Live video coverage will be available on ESPN3, with separate feeds for each field event.
Competition Format
Twenty-four women qualified to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in each event through the NCAA Preliminary Rounds format. In every throwing event, each athlete will receive three preliminary attempts. The top nine performers will advance to the final round, earning three additional attempts.
All-America Honors
The top eight finishers in all events will earn first team All-American honors, places 9 through 16 will be named second team All-Americans, and all other national meet competitors will receive honorable mention status.
Back-to-Back
Kari Wolfe will be making her second straight appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the javelin. She placed fifth last season, throwing a personal-best 180-6 (55.02m).
One of Each
Amy Phillips will be making her first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, but her second NCAA Championships appearance overall. She placed 15th in the weight throw at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
Throwing Event Regulars
NDSU has sent a women's qualifier to the NCAA Championships in the hammer throw for five straight seasons – Katelyn Weimerskirch in 2017, Maddy Nilles in 2018, Bailey Retzlaff in 2019, Nilles again in 2021, and Phillips in 2022.
The Bison have had a representative in the women's javelin at the national meet for six of the past seven seasons – Sierra Rosenau in 2015, Alyssa Olin in 2017 and 2018, Akealy Moton in 2019, Moton and Wolfe in 2021, and Wolfe again this year.
Kept the Streak Alive
The Bison women have advanced qualifiers to the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the ninth consecutive national meet. NDSU has sent multiple qualifiers to seven of the past eight NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Top Placer
Laura Hermanson is the highest women's national-meet finisher in NDSU's Division I history, taking second place in the 800 meters at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
