Men’s Golf Set to Close Fall Season in Mexico

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State men's golf continues their season this week in Monterrey, Mexico for the Monterrey International Intercollegiate, closing out the fall semester schedule at the Club Campestre on Friday and Saturday in an event hosted by George Washington University.
Tournament Schedule
The tournament tees off at 7 a.m. CT on Friday with the first 27 holes of 54 scheduled to be played over two days. The tournament continues Saturday with the final 27 holes. Friday will see the teams play 9-hole course segments Mitras, Silla and then Mitras for a second time. Saturday, the teams will finish out the second round on Silla before the final round, again on Mitras and Silla.
The Field
The Monterrey International Intercollegiate will see 10 teams square off at Club Campestre. Along with host George Washington and the Bison, the field includes Utah State, Yale, Howard, Loyola Maryland, Valparaiso, Tarleton State, Idaho, and Texas-Rio Grande Valley.

The Course
The Club Campestre, in Monterrey, Mexico, was built in 1951 and then remodeled in 1993. The course features 27 total holes, but the event will be held on two 9-hole segments; Mitras and Silla. The club, which is laid out with Bermuda 419 grass on the fairways and A-4 Bentgrass greens, is surrounded by submontane scrub vegetation, including mesquite, huizache, broom, guajillo, and anacahuita. The 27-hole course sits in the middle of the Sierra Madre Oriental mountains and at the base of Cerro de la Silla (Mount Silla).
Bison at the Monterrey International Intercollegiate
This is the inaugural event for the Monterrey International Intercollegiate. The Bison will also be making their first-ever trip outside of the United States for competitive golf.

- Nate Adams was named the TicketSmarter Peak Golfer of the Month for September. He led the Bison with a 71.33 scoring average and achieved top 16 finishes in all three events in the month.
- Gavin Cronkhite carded a team-best round of 66 (-5) on the season with his opening round at the Zach Johnson Invitational. Adams and Cronkhite each have carded rounds of 68 (-4) as well this season.
- The Bison are coming off a fourth-place finish at the Bill Cullum Invitational two weeks ago. Jack Johnson led the Bison, finishing tied for third overall.
- Jack Johnson leads the Bison in scoring average, shooting under par with a 71.58 this season through 12 rounds. Cronkhite and Galvin are tied for second with a 72.50 scoring average.

NDSU will take six golfers to the Monterrey International Invitational. The Bison competing will be Nate Adams, Gavin Cronkhite, Josh Galvin, Jack Johnson, Ian Simonich, and Jake Skarperud.
Looking Ahead
Men's Golf will be off for the remainder of the fall semester, but will jump back into action at the Loyola Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Ariz in late February. The event, which will be held on Feb. 25-27, will be hosted by Loyola Maryland at the Palm Valley Course.
