Late Surge Lifts Texas Past NDSU Baseball, 7-4

AUSTIN, Texas – The Longhorns plated three runs over the seventh and eighth innings to sneak past the North Dakota State baseball team, 7-4, on Wednesday night in front of 6,522 fans at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

For the second night in a row, Druw Sackett got the Bison (1-16) off to a fast start lacing an RBI double into right field to make the score 1-0 in the first inning. Cadyn Schwabe increased the edge to 2-0 with an infield single to score Will Busch in the second frame. Texas (11-7) answered scoring a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second before Eric Kennedy tied the game, 2-2, with a solo home run in the third.

NDSU quickly recaptured the lead in the fourth inning, 3-2, after Busch was able to get home following an error. Schwabe finished the inning using an RBI ground out to make the score 4-2. Dylan Campbell responded for the Longhorns with a two-run home run to lock the contest 4-4 in the fifth frame.

Kennedy followed it up with his second homerun of the game to steal the edge, 5-4, in the seventh. The Longhorns then added insurance in the eighth pushing two more runs across on three hits to seal the 7-4 victory.

The Bison totaled nine hits as a team. Schwabe registered two hits with a team-best two RBI, while Sackett added two hits with one stolen base and one RBI.

Parker Puetz made the start going 4.0 innings on the mound with one strikeout. Joey Danielson (0-3) picked up the loss with one strikeout over 1.0 innings. Skyler Riedinger finished the final frame on the hill with a team-best two strikeouts.
