Nebraska Edges NDSU Baseball, 4-1

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Huskers used a three-run home run in the seventh inning to sneak past the North Dakota State baseball team, 4-1, on Tuesday night at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park.

The Bison (5-19, 2-1 Summit) struck first after Terrell Huggins was caught stealing second base allowing Cadyn Schwabe to get across to make the score 1-0 in the first inning. The contest then went scoreless for three innings until the Huskers (14-8-1, 2-1 Big Ten) were able to push a run across following an error to lock the score, 1-1, in the fifth.

Following a scoreless sixth frame, Brice Matthews stole the lead for Nebraska with a three-run home run to left field to make the score 4-1. The Bison made one final surge in the eighth after Jack Steil got on with a single and Schwabe was hit by a pitch, but both were left stranded. NDSU couldn't get anything going the rest of the way and dropped the contest, 4-1.

Parker Puetz made his fourth start of the season tossing a season-high five strikeouts with one hit. The Volga, S.D., native didn't allow a walk or a run over 3.0 innings of work. Carson Jacobs also added three strikeouts over 2.0 innings.

NDSU will be back in action on Friday against South Dakota State in Council Bluffs, Iowa. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. at Doc Ross Field. The Bison and the Jackrabbits will then conclude the series in Omaha, Neb. at Tal Anderson Field on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
