COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – The North Dakota State baseball team came up short in the series opener against Oral Roberts, 10-0, in seven innings at Doc Ross Field on Friday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles (28-10, 13-0 Summit), who entered the week receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll, got off to a fast start following two home runs from Justin Quinn and Matt Hogan to make the score 2-0 in the first inning. Jonah Cox then connected on a two-run home run of his own to push the lead to 4-0 in the third frame.
Following two scoreless innings, Cox added his second home run of the game to stretch the lead to 7-0. The Golden Eagles then put the game away in the seventh inning pushing across five runs on three hits to seal the 10-0 win after Drew Stahl delivered an RBI single to left field.
The Bison (10-25, 7-3 Summit) totaled seven hits as team with
James Dunlap logging his 11th multi hit game of the season after going 2-of-3 at the plate.
Cade Feeney (4-4) tossed a game-high eight strikeouts over 6.0 innings. It marked his seventh game this season with five or more strikeouts.
NDSU and Oral Roberts will continue their series tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
