NDSU Baseball Dismantles Western Illinois in Seven Innings, 13-3

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team scored in bunches plating multiple runs in each of the first four innings to cruise past Western Illinois, 13-3, in seven innings on Saturday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field.

After Tristen Roehrich worked the Bison (14-26, 9-5 Summit) out of a bases loaded jam in the top half of the first inning, Druw Sackett smashed an RBI double into left field to make the score 1-0. James Dunlap then delivered his first career triple to send two more runs across to stretch the lead to 3-0. Following an RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of Terrell Huggins, Jack Steil completed the big inning with a solo home run to right field to increase the edge to 5-0.

NDSU continued to roll into the second pushing across three more runs on three hits, including a pair of RBI's from Sackett and Dunlap to grow the advantage to 8-0. Sackett began to put the game away in the third with a two-run home run to right field, before Peter Brookshaw added a two-run homer of his own in the fourth to make the score 13-0. NDSU went on to pick up the seven-inning run rule victory, 13-3.

The Bison tallied 14 hits with five different players logging multiple hit games. Sackett paced NDSU going 3-of-3 at the plate with three runs and four RBI.

Roehrich (4-5) went 5.0 innings on the hill in the start with seven strikeouts, two walks and one run. It marked his ninth performance with at least five strikeouts this season. Reese Ligtenberg finished out the final 1.0 innings with two strikeouts.

NDSU will wrap up its series with Western Illinois (5-32, 2-9 Summit) tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m., at Newman Outdoor Field.
