LINCOLN, Neb. – The North Dakota State baseball team dropped a 3-1 decision at Nebraska on Wednesday night at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park in front of 3,991 fans on Wednesday night.
Jake Schaffner led the way for the Bison (5-15, 2-1 Summit) going 3-of-4 at the plate, including his first career triple in the eighth inning to send across the only run for NDSU. It marked his third straight multiple hit game and seventh of the season. Cadyn Schwabe, Garret Hill and Will Busch also contributed one hit each as NDSU totaled six hits as a team.
The Bison combined to use seven pitchers with Roman Trapani (0-1) taking the loss in his first career start. He tossed a team-high four strikeouts over 2.1 innings of work.
Nebraska (15-5), who entered the week receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches' Poll, grabbed a 2-0 lead after plating a run in the first following an RBI walk and then an RBI single off the bat of Garrett Anglim. The Huskers added insurance in the seventh frame pushing a run across after Anglim was caught stealing allowing Bryce Hughes to make the score 3-0.
NDSU will be back in action to begin a three-game series at Oral Roberts on Friday. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
