MINNEAPOLIS – The North Dakota State baseball team dropped an 11-3 decision at Minnesota on Tuesday night at Siebert Field.
The Gophers (13-14, 2-4 Big Ten) scored six runs in the second inning on five hits to grab a 7-0 lead after Kyle Bork sent a two-run single into left field. The Bison (8-20, 5-4 Summit) attempted to rally after Cadyn Schwabe connected on an RBI triple and Colten Becker bounced an RBI double off the wall to cut the deficit to 7-2 in the fourth inning.
Minnesota answered with two more runs in each of the next two frames to stretch its edge to 11-2 after Drew Berkland scored on a wild pitch in the sixth. NDSU couldn't get anything going the rest of the way and dropped the contest, 11-3.
Becker led the way for NDSU going 3-of-4 at the plate with one double and one RBI. It marked his third multiple hit game this season. The Bison totaled nine hits as a team with seven different players connecting on at least one.
NDSU combined to use eight different pitchers with Julien Hachem (0-2) picking up the loss with two strikeouts in his first career start. Skyler Riedinger also checked in for one inning and tossed a team-high three strikeouts.
NDSU will return to Summit League play with a three-game series at Northern Colorado beginning on Friday at 3:00 p.m. CT
