Bison Women Open Competition at NCAA West Prelims Thursday

The North Dakota State University women's track & field team has qualified 11 entries for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds held May 22-25 in Fayetteville, Ark.
The top 12 finishers in each event at the Preliminary Rounds will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 5-8. Senior Lexi Maples will be the top-ranked Bison entering the meet at No. 11 in the West for the hammer throw.
A total of nine Bison women will compete, with seniors Kendra Kelley and Bailee Dierks qualified in a pair of events. Kelley, Dierks, Salmata Korgho, Nell Graham and Alex Seagris are all repeat qualifiers from last season.

How to Advance
The top 12 finishers in each event at the Preliminary Rounds will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 5-8.
In the hammer throw, javelin, and long jump, all 48 competitors will receive a single round of three attempts. The top 12 marks overall advance to the NCAA Championships.
In the high jump, the final 12 athletes remaining in the competition will advance to the NCAA Championships, with a potential jump-off used if a tiebreaker for the 12th spot is needed.
In the 100m dash, 200m dash, 400m dash, 100m hurdles, and 400m hurdles, the top three finishers from each heat plus the next six fastest times (24) will advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday. The top three finishers from each quarterfinal heat plus the next three fastest times (12) will advance to the NCAA Championships.
